Audiologist

Rachael Adams, originally born in Chesapeake, grew up in several different locations due to the nature of being a military child and a military spouse. Rachael completed her bachelor’s in communication sciences and disorders from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh in 2017. Deciding to follow her heart, and constantly reminded by a quote from her high school’s theatre advisor, Rachael continued her education at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC), conducted her 4th-year residency in South Weymouth, MA, and graduated with her Doctor of Audiology in 2021. Rachael started out at a private practice in Wilmington, NC, before moving to Norfolk, VA, where she continued assessments for Veteran’s Affairs Compensation and Pension examinations.

Rachael has been published in Nature’s Scientific Reports (April 2022), interviewed with Brian Taylor, Au.D., with Audiology Online (2021), and presented at the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) annual conference in 2020 for her capstone project titled “Lombard effect, intelligibility, ambient noise, and willingness to spend time and money in a restaurant amongst older adults”. Rachael’s clinical interests include balance disorders, assessments and treatment; traumatic brain injuries; hearing and balance disorders related to military hazardous exposures and injuries; cognition; and providing patient-centered care with improved quality of life.

In the words of Helen Keller: “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched — they must be felt with the heart.” Maybe even heard too!
