Clinical Audiologist

Dr. Alexandra (Alexa) Yowell has been a practicing audiologist since 2017. She received her bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders in 2013 and completed her fourth-year residency at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, where she specialized in pediatric and adult amplification and cochlear implants. Dr. Yowell earned her clinical doctorate in audiology in 2017 from James Madison University. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and the Academy of Doctors of Audiology.

Alexa started her career at Fredericksburg Ear Nose and Throat and Plastic Surgery Center where she worked primarily performing adult and pediatric hearing evaluations. A Williamsburg native, she moved home in 2018 at which time she started working at Dr. Hecker and Associates. Shortly after she started, Alexa felt the need to find solutions for patients who were no longer benefiting from traditional hearing aids. In February of 2019, she worked to establish a Cochlear Implant Program. By May 2019, Dr. Hecker & Associates was proud to be part of The Cochlear America’s Provider Network (CPN) and work closely with physicians at VCU and EVMS. Through the addition of these services, Alexa has enabled patients of every hearing level to have access to services through Dr. Hecker & Associates. Her other specialty areas include fitting advanced hearing instruments and performing a variety of diagnostic evaluations for adults and pediatric populations.
