With the generous help of community members across Newport News and Williamsburg, we raised more than $400 through our annual holiday basket raffle to benefit the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.
The popular raffle, now in its third year, bested last year’s total by at least $100 and will help the 30-years-strong food bank provide meals to more than 1,600 people in need this holiday season.
“I’m beside myself with gratitude and joy, because we couldn’t do this without the support of the communities we serve,” said Debra Pulsifer, Patient Care Coordinator at Dr. Hecker and Associates. “It’s a chance to support an important organization and give back with a little help from our friends.”
About 100 to 130 people entered the raffle — tickets were only $1 for 1 or $5 for 10 — to win one of two baskets tied with a bow and filled with goodies from chocolates, cheeses, and crackers to nuts, meats, and wine, plus a cutting board and a pair of wine glasses.
The lucky winners? In Newport News, Emma Guy, and in Williamsburg, Ron Waters.
Congratulations to Emma and Ron, and a huge thank you to everyone who donated to this wonderful cause! Learn more about our community service.
